Top 5 Things To Do In Nashville For Christmas

 In Nashville

“Nashville does Christmas better than anybody!” — Santa Claus

Okay, we’re not 100% certain that he actually said that… but he might have!

When you hear the words “winter wonderland,” Nashville probably isn’t the first thing that comes to mind. It’s true that Nashville doesn’t typically receive much snow during the month of December, but don’t let that put you off! Nashville is bursting at the seams with awesome Christmas festivities and activities that the whole family can enjoy!

In the interest of spreading Christmas spirit, we’ve taken the liberty of writing down a few of our favorite holiday activities around Nashville for you.

5 Awesome Things To Do For Christmas In Nashville

1. Do Christmas At The Ryman

You’re likely already familiar with Nashville’s most famous venue: The Ryman Auditorium. However, you might not have known that The Ryman often hosts Christmas events. This year, you can join Amy Grant and Vince Gill for a night of Christmas cheer that the whole family can enjoy on 8 different nights during the month of December. Or, if you’d prefer, you can sing along with Rufus & Martha Wainwright, who will be joined by Alison Krauss, Emmylou Harris, and others! They are performing 2 back-to-back nights this month!

2. Join The “Santa Rampage”

Every Christmas, upwards of 1,000 people dress up as Santa, and go out for a night of drinking on Broadway, pushing Nashville’s already legendary nightlife to the next level. It’s known as the “Santa Rampage,” or “Santa Con,” and while Nashville isn’t the only city participating in this strange, but hilarious tradition, it certainly makes for some of the most interesting scenery. Seeing Nashville’s country bars flooded with Santa Claus impersonators in one of the more impressively out-of-place sights you’re likely to ever see.

Interested? Then RSVP on Facebook. It’s on December 10th!

3. Drive Through The “Dancing Lights”

Drive-through Christmas light shows are hardly a new concept, but Nashville’s rendition of the “dancing lights” is particularly impressive. If you choose to partake, you can expect this light show to take a solid 30 minutes to drive through. There are thousands of colorful light arrangements that dance with impressive choreography to a score of modernized Christmas music.

4. Enjoy a Real Southern Christmas Dinner At Monell’s

Monell’s is a classic fixture in Nashville’s vibrant restaurant scene. Locally, it’s known for being some of the best, most authentic Southern cooking in Nashville. Every year, for the past 21 years, they have hosted an elaborate Christmas dinner. This year will be year number 22!

These dinners are held on December 1st, 2nd, 9th, 10th, and the 15th straight through the 24th! You’ve got plenty of options, so why not give it a try? You can find more information on Monell’s official event page!

5. Walk Through The Cheekwood Holiday Lights

The Cheekwood Botanical Garden is one of our favorite spots in Nashville. It makes for a gorgeous walk year-round, but Christmas is an especially great time to visit. Every year, the good people of Cheekwood create incredible Christmas light displays in their already-incredible gardens, not to mention the Cheekwood Mansion.

It’s pretty amazing, and it could make a great date (hint hint). You can find more information on the Cheekwood Botanical Garden’s website.
