7 Ways to Enjoy the End of Summer in Nashville

 In Nashville

You’ll never be searching too long for something to do in Nashville, no matter what time of year it is. However, summer is particularly wonderful in Music City. The sunshine and ample outdoor activities make it a great place to visit in the warmer months of the year.

And even though it might not exactly seem like it, we’re getting toward the end of the summer. The days of grillouts and long walks in the sun will be over before we know it.

However, there’s still time left. You are not too late to get out and participate in whatever summer-y activities you either haven’t made the time for quite yet, or simply can’t get enough of.

Are you running low on ideas of how to enjoy the summer months while we still have them?

Here are 7 wonderful ways to enjoy the end of summer in Nashville, TN:

  1. Go for a Hike
  2. Sit at a Rooftop Bar
  3. Kayak on the Harpeth River
  4. Enjoy Ice Cream at Bobbie’s Dairy Dip
  5. Go Swimming at Percy Priest
  6. Bike the Greenway
  7. Rent a Boat on Old Hickory Lake

1. Go for a Hike

There’s no better way to enjoy the summer than getting out in nature. Our daily lives are filled with car horns and traffic lights. Taking a break and heading out into nature is a great way to reset yourself.

And there are plenty of opportunities around Nashville for scenic hikes. Whether you’re looking for beautiful water views at Radnor Lake, or wooded ridges at Beamon Park, you’re sure to find something that suits your mood in the Nashville area.

2. Sit at a Rooftop Bar

But every excursion to the outdoors doesn’t need to involve an ample amount of exercise. In fact, sometimes the only exercise we’re looking for is whatever amount of steps it is between our seat and the bar.

There are a lot of establishments around Nashville that provide the opportunity to sit outdoors while enjoying all the creature comforts of visiting a bar. Find your favorite patio area, sit back, and order a drink while spending quality time with some friends.

3. Kayak on the Harpeth River

The Harpeth River is a great little getaway just outside of Nashville. There are plenty of things you can do on the river, but one of the most simultaneously relaxing and fun options is to rent a kayak and paddle your way down.

There are many different locations in which you can enter the Harpeth River, but the quality of the time you spend there will always remain high.

4. Enjoy Ice Cream at Bobbie’s Dairy Dip

Ice cream is delicious at any point in the year. However, ice cream on a hot summer day feels like a vacation. And the atmosphere in which that ice cream comes from can have a huge impact on your enjoyment of it.

Bobbie’s Dairy Dip is located on the west side of Nashville. And walking up to it feels like walking back in time. The location has been serving cool treats since 1951, and the decor looks as though it hasn’t been updated since their grand opening.

5. Go Swimming at Percy Priest

I don’t know about you, but swimming is my favorite way to spend a hot summer afternoon. Percy Priest Lake is Nashville’s go-to spot for a natural swimming experience.

This public lake has a few designated swimming areas that provide opportunities for laying out in the sun, building sand castles, or hosting a barbecue. There’s nothing more “summer” than spending an afternoon at the beach.

6. Bike the Greenway

Nashville has a lot of gorgeous green areas. It can be easy to glance past them when driving in a car. Heading out on a bicycle is a great way to truly experience these gorgeous areas.

The Greenway is a bike trail that winds along the Cumberland River. A pedestrian bridge affords a beautiful view of the river, and leads you down a paved path that takes you into Shelby Park. Continue down the road to be delivered directly into downtown Nashville.

7. Rent a Boat on Old Hickory Lake

And if you want to get out on a lake without the physical exertion of swimming, you can head to Old Hickory Lake and rent a pontoon boat. Don’t have a boater’s license? Don’t worry! You only need to be over the age of 21 with a valid driver’s license to rent one of these beauties.

They’re equipped with all the relevant safety equipment you need. Gather up to 15 of your closest friends and head out on the water with an upper deck, waterslide, bathroom, and grill. A short introduction to the safety features is all that’s needed before you spend your day on the water.
