Garth Brooks to Play Free Show in Nashville

Recorded and produced right here in Tennessee, seven of the country music superstar’s albums have been Diamond Certified by the Recording Industry Association of America.

To pay tribute to the talented men and women who make the music possible and to honor loyal Nashville fans, Garth Brooks is hosting a free celebration performance in collaboration with the Tennessee Department of Tourist Development.

On October 24, at the Ascend Amphitheater, Brooks will rock a packed Nashville waterfront with seven songs — one from each of his Diamond-Certified albums. Selling more than 10 million copies each, lucky fans are set to enjoy songs from “Garth Brooks, No Fences,” “Ropin’ The Wind,” “The Hits,” “Double-Live,” “Sevens,” and “The Ultimate Hits.

In a news release issued earlier this month, Tennessee Governor Bill Haslam stated, ““Garth Brooks can live and make music anywhere he wants, and the fact that he has chosen to do that in Tennessee says a lot about our state. We’re grateful he is partnering with us because he represents our state so well and inspires people to visit Tennessee and experience, as we say, the soundtrack of America.”

Haslam also named Brooks a Tennessee Ambassador of Goodwill for his record-setting achievement. Previously, Brooks had been tied with the Beatles, who have six Diamond Certified recordings.

Although Brooks isn’t taking the stage until 7 p.m., the party kicks off at the designated Garth Brooks 7 Diamond Celebration Viewing Area in Riverfront Park. Celebration-goers who don’t have tickets to Ascend can enjoy a few brews at the Budweiser Beer Garden in Riverfront Park , sample from a variety of Food trucks on 1st Ave, and watch the show on giant live-stream video screens.

A Long and Winding Road

Brooks, who’s married to fellow country music superstar Trisha Yearwood, took an unorthodox approach to selling 138 million albums. After ”retiring” at the height of his fame (and as the top-selling solo artist in America) in 2001 to raise his children, he vowed not to record until his youngest daughter graduated from high school in 2014. Although he continued to perform benefit concerts, most notably nine sold-out shows at the Bridgestone arena to raise money for Nashville flood relief in 2010, it wasn’t until 2009 that Brooks committed to a series of period weekend residency in Vegas that fans began to hope for a new album.

True to his word, however, Brooks did not return to Nashville until 2014, launching the record-breaking three-year Garth Brooks World Tour with Trisha Yearwood. Since then, Brooks has sold nearly 5 million tickets and has wowed audiences in more than 50 cities around the globe.

As if a free concert were reason enough for fans to celebrate, Brooks announced that he will release his 11th studio album “Gunslinger” on November 25, 2016.

Brooks is a member of the Country Music Hall of Fame and Museum, the Songwriters Hall of Fame (NYC) and, the Nashville Songwriters Hall of Fame. He has received awards from the Academy of Country Music, the American Music Awards, Country Music Association, GRAMMY’s, People’s Choice Awards, and more.

Nashville, the Home of Garth Brooks and Trisha Yearwood

After nearly 14 well-spent years in Oklahoma, Garth Brooks and Trisha Yearwood returned to Nashville, where the couple (when they’re not on the road) enjoys life in Goodlettsville on a secluded farm estate.
